Women’s Ice Hockey Rallies To Down Golden Wolves

MARLBORO, MA: The Anna Maria College women's ice hockey team prevailed 3-1 over visiting Alvernia University on Saturday evening at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, Massachusetts.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Saturday, November 13, 2021
  • Score: Anna Maria 3, Alvernia 1

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The AMCATS trailed 1-0 after the first period, as Alvernia sophomore forward Lexi Hooper (Charlotte, NC) scored off a power play, assisted by junior forward Amber Steinhilpert (Anchorage, AK) and junior defender Olivia Gilida (Littleton, CO).
  • Anna Maria would rally in the second, with two goals of their own. Junior defender Abigail Vigliotte (Medford, MA) scored, assisted by freshman forward Jordyn Bleaney (Nanoose Bay, BC) 4:52 into the period to tie it up.
  • Then with 9:38 to go in the second, junior forward Grace Dodge (St. Paul, MN) scored her first goal of the season to give Anna Maria their first lead of the game, assisted by junior forward Sara Sammons (Western Australia, AUS). That shot proved to be the eventual game winner.
  • Anna Maria senior forward Niamh Cote (Tewksbury, MA) scored an empty-netter in the final minute for the final score.
  • Anna Maria junior goalie Sam Dahill (Littleton, MA) had the near-shutout, stopping 23 of 24 shots.

Anna Maria will be back on the ice on Tuesday evening when they travel to New England College 7:00 p.m. match.
