Volleyball Falls Short Against Cadets And Can’t Keep Up Against Monks In Tri-Match

STANDISH, ME. – On Friday, September 15th the Anna Maria College women's volleyball team made their way up to Standish, ME for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tri-Match with the Monks of St. Joseph's (ME) and the Cadets of Norwich University. The AMCATS lost both matches.

The AMCATS started out their evening facing off against the Norwich University Cadets. In a back and forth battle, the AMCATS took control of the first set posting a 25-20 win over the Cadets. Throwing it right back at the AMCATS, the Cadets won the second set 25-19. Tied at one a piece, both teams battled it out in the third set with the AMCATS eventually winning 26-24. The fourth set would be another all out war with both teams fighting to stay alive resulting in a 27-25 victory for Norwich to push for the deciding fifth set. Tied at two sets a piece, the AMCATS would not be able to hold on and ended up losing the final set 15-7 to the Cadets, resulting in a 3-2 loss for match number one.

-Shae Savoie led the AMCATS with 14 kills on 52 total attempts in the matchup.

-Serena Dennis would lead the team in Digs totally 24 against the Cadets.

-Sarah Burt posted an impressive 24 assists to lead the AMCATS.

The AMCATS would move on to play the Monks in match number two of the evening. Despite the hard fought effort in the first match against the Cadets, the Monks were able to handle the AMCATS in just three sets posting scores of 25-12, 25-17 and 25-8. Struggling to keep up with the Monks, the AMCATS would end the evening 0-2.

-Sarah Burt would add seven more assists to her night.

-Shae Savoie continued to lead the AMCATS in kills with five of 22 total attempts. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Sarah Burt reached a season high for assists in a single game with 24 against the Cadets.
  • Serena Dennis also reached a season high for digs in a single game posting 24 against the Cadets.
