Women’s Volleyball Honor Seniors and Take Down the Hornets

PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College women's volleyball team welcomed Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Tuesday evening for a non-conference matchup at the Fuller Activities Center.

SENIOR DAY:

Prior to the game, the AMCATS recognized their graduating senior class as part of senior day. Patty Agbeh (Raleigh, NC), Serena Dennis (Holyoke, MA), Merlyne Gil (Central Falls, RI), Ryann Hassett (North Oxford, MA), Bella Kozciak (Westfield, MA), and Ashley Sheehan (Medford, MA) were honored by coaches, teammates, family members, and fans for their time with the volleyball program. Although their time with the program may be ending, they will forever be a part of the AMCAT family.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • After dropping the first set, the AMCATS rallied back to win the second, third, and fourth sets by wide margins. The second set was 25-10, the third set 25-7, and the fourth set another 24-10 annihilation.
  • This was the AMCATS second win of the year over the Hornets, having defeated them in Lyndon three sets to none on September 13th.
  • Senior outside hitter Bella Kozciak (Westfield, MA), senior middle blocker Ryann Hassett (North Oxford, MA), and senior middle blocker Ashely Sheehan (Medford, MA) showed what senior leadership looked like by combining for 19 of the AMCATS 33 kills. Kozciak had eight while Hassett and Sheehan had six and five respectively.
  • Kozciak and junior outside hitter Sarah Burt (Plymouth, MA) led the AMCATS with 14 digs, while senior libero Serena Dennis (Holyoke, MA) contributed 12 digs.  
  • Junior setter Julia Tarantino (Pembroke, MA) and freshman setter Isabella Sand (Seymour, CT) topped the assist category for the AMCATS with 12 and 10.
  • The AMCATS held a 25-4 edge in service aces, led by five each for Kozciak and Sand while Burt had four and Hassett three.
  • The Hornets saw double-digit kills from Calysta Lohman who had 15. The Hornets were led by Charlotte Morris with 22 digs. The Hornets had the game-high in both categories.

  • Kills: NVU 25, AMC 33
  • Service Aces: NVU 4, AMC 25
  • Digs: NVU 61, AMC 69

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be in action again on Wednesday when they travel to Worcester State University for a non-conference matchup at the Worcester State Wellness Center. The teams will take the court for a 7 PM start.
