John Shliapa joined the sports medicine staff at Anna Maria College in 2008 as Assistant Athletic Trainer. In 2018, John was promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer. His title was elevated to Head Athletic Trainer in 2019.

John attended Northeastern University (Boston, MA) and graduated in the class of 2007 with his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. John is a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) through the National Board of Certification and is licensed through the state of Massachusetts. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). John maintains a current CPR & AED certification from the Red Cross.

SHARONA MALLACH

Sharona Mallach was hired as Assistant Athletic Trainer in 2018. She was promoted to the position of Associate Athletic Trainer in 2021. She has over 10 years of experience working in various levels of collegiate athletics.

Sharona holds a Master of Science in Athletic Training from Seton Hall University and graduated with the class of 2010. She received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, in 2007 from Boston University. Sharona is a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) through the National Board of Certification and is licensed through the states of Massachusetts and New York. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). Sharona maintains a current CPR & AED certification from the Red Cross and is a certified Red Cross instructor.

GENERAL STAFF INFORMATION

The Anna Maria College Sports Medicine Staff have all passed the national certification exam, obtained at least a Bachelor's degree in athletic training, and are CPR certified. Every member of the staff is also licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration in Allied Health.

The Anna Maria College Sports Medicine Staff is overseen by Dr. Michael Maddaleni, a physician affiliated with the University of Massachusetts Sports Medicine Clinic. Physicians through the University of Massachusetts Sports Medicine Clinic are on campus weekly for consultation with athletes, by appointment only. A physician is present for all home football and men’s ice hockey contests.
