Women's Hockey Announces Go Red for Women Hockey Tournament

PAXTON, Mass: The Anna Maria College Women's Hockey team has partnered with the American Heart Association for the inaugural Beth Fitzgerald GO RED For Women Hockey Tournament. The event will take place Feb. 22-23 at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro.

Friday's night games have Anna Maria College facing off against UMass-Lowell while Bridgewater State will battle Curry College in the other semifinal. Both games are at 6 p.m. The championship and third place games will be played Saturday at 1 p.m.

"We are delighted to work with Anna Maria College hockey in raising awareness about heart disease and stroke in women," said Cynthia Ennis, an American Heart Association board member and cardiologist at UMass-Memorial Hospital in Worcester. "Heart Disease is the Number 1 killer of women across the globe and the symptoms of a heart attack are often very different in women than in men."

The AHA will be teaching "hands only" CPR at the games, handing out prizes and literature about women and heart disease. There will also be a raffle for Bruins tickets, games and special on-ice ceremonies.

The tournament is named in honor of Beth Fitzgerald, mother of junior captain Hannah Fitzgerald.

"My mom passing away of an unexpected heart attack affected my family so much. My mom was the best mother, wife, and friend anyone could of ever asked for. She was the kindest lady and would of done and anything for anyone ."
