AMCATS Skate to 1-1 Draw Against Salve Regina

MIDDLETOWN, RI - Salve Regina led through two periods, but Samantha Rodriguez (Corona, CA) scored an early third-period goal which helped the AMCATS earn the 1-1 draw Monday afternoon at St.George's School Ice Rink.

BASICS

  • DATE: February 17, 2020
  • SCORE: Salve Regina University Seahawks 1, Anna Maria College AMCATS 1
  • RECORDS: Salve Regina University (5-16-2), Anna Maria College (2-18-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Early in the first period (5:14), Salve Regina got the opening score when Cassidy Lariviere (Marstons Mills, MA) handled a pass by Lexie Anderson (San Francisco, CA) and snuck the puck past AMCATS netminder, Julia Smith (Chillwack, BC) for the 1-0 lead.
  • Neither school found the back of the net in the second period, but Smith helped keep the 'CATS deficit at one when she stopped 17 Seahawk shots. Meanwhile, Anna Maria generated two powerplay opportunites but just could not get the puck past Salve Regina goalie, Hailey Martin (Berkley, MA)
  • Quickly in the third period (2:10), the squad evened the contest at one as Rodriguez corralled a Meghan Sonia (West Tisbury, MA) pass to put the puck past Martin for the game-tying goal. From there, Salve sent 26 shots in the remainder of the period and overtime toward Smith but she stonewalled each Salve Regina attempt for the 1-1 draw.
