Women's Hockey Drops Game Against Post, 8-1

MARLBOROUGH, MA - Annabelle Austin (Anchorage, AK) scored the lone AMCATS goal as the Anna Maria College women's hockey team (2-13-1) were defeated by the Post University Eagles (11-16-0), 8-1 Saturday evening at the New England Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Halfway through the first period, Austin broke the scoreless drought after Sara Sammons (Western Australia, AUS) swung the puck to her and snuck it past the left pad of Eagles netminder, Jenna Baumgartner (Roseau, MN) for the 1-0 lead.
  • As the second period started, Post quickly evened the contest up at one after Paige Dundas (La Broqueire, MB) collected a pass from by Gwen Lansky (Grass Lake, MI). Once Dundas had the puck, she sent her shot past AMCATS goalie, Julia Smith (Chillwack, BC)
  • 35 seconds later, the Eagles netted the eventual game-winner as Victoria Paton (Toronto, ON) put home a Natalie Sammons (Collingwood, ON) pass to give Post the 2-1 advantage. The Eagles went on to add two more goals off the sticks of Sammons and Jenna Abeyta (Aurora, CO) at 11:56 and 14:53 respectively.
  • Post continued the offensive output in the third period as the Eagles tacked on four goals courtesy of Abeya (4:45), Sadie Storm (New Hudson, MI) (5:10), Lansky (15:33), and Storm again (18:51).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • After Austin's goal, she now leads the team with four on the year.
  • Smith got the start for the AMCATS as she had 44 saves before Gabrielle Gibson (Anchorage, AK) took over in the third period and recorded five saves.
  • Baumgartner totaled 15 saves for the visitors.
  • Post outshot Anna Maria by a 55-15 margin.
