Becker Downs Women's Ice Hockey, 4-0

MARLBOROUGH, MA - In Anna Maria College's final home game of the 2019-20 season, Becker College shutout the squad by a score 4-0 Friday evening at the New England Sports Center.

BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Early in the first period, Sara Sammons (Western Australia, AUS) had a good look on a shot but Hawks goalie, Amber Lee (Nashua, NH) made the save to keep the score 0-0. However, just before the period ended at 19:20, Brandi Lee (Nashua, NH) connected with Katherine Capobianco (North Andover, MA) and gave Becker the 1-0 lead after one. 
• Just 48 seconds into the second period, the Hawks wasted no time as Cassidhe Wozniak (Turner Falls, MA) handled a pass from Clare Conway (Billerica, MA) to send the puck past AMCATS netminder, Julia Smith (Chillwack, BC) and quickly made it 2-0. 
• Shortly after the Hawks goal, Anna Maria drew a powerplay opportunity and Grace Dodge (St. Paul, MN) got off one shot with the extra skater, but the 'CATS could not capitalize on the powerplay. Becker tacked on two more goals in the period off the sticks of Conway and Wozniak at 6:25 and 7:09 respectively. 
• Third-period action saw no goals between both schools but the squad had drawn two powerplay chances but unfortunately could not score on each of them as the Hawks held on for the 4-0 win.   

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Smith earned the start again for the AMCATS and collected 36 saves on the evening. Meanwhile, for the visitors, Lee registered 14 saves.
• Anna Maria held the advantage in powerplays with five, whereas Becker only had two but scored on their second powerplay. Whereas Anna Maria, unfortunately, could not find the net on the extra skater advantage. 
• Becker outshot the 'CATS by a 36-14 margin for the evening.

Both schools wrap-up their home and home tomorrow afternoon at 6:40 PM.
