Women's Hockey Shutout By Plymouth State, 3-0

PLYMOUTH, NH- The Anna Maria College women's ice hockey team (2-14-1) traveled up to the Plymouth State Panthers (4-13-1) where they dropped their contest, 3-0 Friday evening at Hanaway Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • No side found the net in the opening frame as both goalies played well. Anna Maria had their lone chance just 3:06 into the game as Ashley Dickinson (Bowmansville, ON) put a shot on net that was turned away by Panthers keeper, Becca Bridge (Gadsbury, AB). Meanwhile, Plymouth State peppered AMCATS goalie, Julia Smith (Chillwack, BC) with 13 shots but she turned away each attempt to preserve the shutout headed into the second period.
  • However, almost midway through the second (8:59), the Panthers broke the scoreless drought when Julie Nagel (Canton, MA) found Alexis Fagan (Burrillville, RI) after a Plymouth State faceoff win for the 1-0 lead. The squad had a chance to even things up near the end of the period when they drew a powerplay at 17:43 and saw two shots from Julianna Acosta (North York, ON) and Ally Goupil (Victoria, BC) but just could not find the back of the net.
  • As the third period became underway, the 'CATS almost tied things up just 21 seconds in as Meghan Sonia (West Tisbury, MA) had a shot on net but Bridge made the save to keep the Panthers 1-0 lead intact. Shortly after at 50 seconds, Plymouth State added another goal from the stick of Alie Louie (Mount Laurel, NJ) for the 2-0 lead. Nine minutes later (9:50), Fagan added one more goal for the Panthers and made the score 3-0.
