Franklin Pierce Blanks AMCATS, 8-0

WINCHENDON, MA - Anna Maria College (2-16-1), went up against Division II school, Franklin Pierce Ravens (18-9-0) and dropped their contest to the Ravens, 8-0 Tuesday evening at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The AMCATS had a chance to get on the board first after the squad drew a powerplay opportunity at 8:44. In that powerplay, Alyssa MacDonald (Nanaimo, BC) rattled off a shot but it ended up being blocked by a Ravens defender. Six minutes later (14:11), Franklin Pierce scored the eventual game-winner off the stick of Meg Gilbride (Braintree, MA)Delaney Guimont (Bedford, NH) swung the puck around to Nicole Amato (Billerica, MA) who skated in the AMCATS defense and dumped the puck off to Gilbride who sent it past Anna Maria goalie, Gabrielle Gibson (Anchorage, AK)
  • Anna Maria had multiple chances for the equalizer early in the second period when Ashley Dickinson (Bowmanville, ON) had a shot on net but was turned away by Raven's netminder, Jessica Strack (Reading, MA).  The 'CATS had one more chance to even things up at 3:29 when Niamh Cote (Tewksbury, MA) saw her shot saved by Strack to preserve the shutout. 
  • Franklin Pierce continued their offensive surge when Cassidy Jones (Stillwater, MN) collected a Reece Diener (McKinney, TX) pass and slipped the puck past Gibson's right side for the 2-0 advantage. The Ravens tacked on three more goals in the period courtesy of Becca Kniss (Eden Prairie, MN)Haley Parker (Londonderry, NH)Bridget Fagan (Millis, MA) at 8:51, 9:16, and 12:07 respectively. 
  • In the third period, Franklin Pierce stayed hot and added three more tallies from Parker (4:46), Diener (7:26), and Kniss (12:29) to secure the Ravens 8-0 victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Gibson drew the start for the AMCATS and collected 26 saves before Julia Smith (Chillwack, BC) took over for the remaining 27:53 and also had 26 saves. 
  • In Gibson's five starts this season, she has made 20 or more saves in each game. 
  • Strack had the start for Franklin Pierce and only needed to make four saves in the win. 
  • Anna Maria only had one powerplay chance but could not capitalize. Meanwhile, the Ravens had four powerplay opportunities and scored on one of them. 
  • For the game, Franklin Pierce outshot the 'CATS by a 60-4 margin.
