Women's Hockey Stifled By Johnson & Wales, 6-1

PAWTUCKET, RI- Annabelle Austin (Anchorage, AK) scored a late third-period goal, but it was not enough as women's hockey (2-11-1) dropped their game against the Johnson & Wales University (JWU) Wildcats, 6-1 Saturday evening at the Blackstone Valley Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • JWU scored 2:20 into the contest after being down a skater while Anna Maria was on the powerplay. Taylor Davis (Windsor, NY) had the puck and found Hannah Tracy (Hanson, MA) who sent her shot past AMCATS goalie, Gabriele Gibson (Anchorage, AK) for the quick 1-0 lead.
  • Five minutes later, the Wildcats struck again after Kathryn Mason (Grafton, MA) received a pass from Skylar Robert (Newport, VT) and put the puck past Gibson for the early 2-0 advantage.
  • Anna Maria had a chance to cut the deficit to one in the second after Riley Cote (Tewksbury, MA) put a shot on net at 5:27 but was turned away by JWU netminder, Jasmine Mucci (Arlington, MA)
  • However, at 13:49, Drea Westgaurd (Elk River, MN) put home a pass from Samantha Kawejsza (Warners, NY) for the 3-0 lead. Tracy tacked on her second goal four minutes later on the power play (17:19) to make the score 4-0.
  • Tracy completed her hat trick at 13:13 to give JWU a 5-0 lead with a little over seven minutes remaining. The squad would not be shutout as Austin capitalized on a powerplay chance when she corralled a pass from Julianna Acosta (North York, ON) to cut the deficit to four (5-1). JWU added on more goal with five minutes left from Shannon Reilly (North Haven, CT) to make the score 6-1.
