AMCATS Shoot Past Wildcats, Dalbec Sets Record

Paxton, Mass. – Junior Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) and  sophomore Kyle Dalbec (Portland, Maine) each netted a goal and collected an assist to lead Anna Maria to a 4-0 New England Collegiate Conference win over the Wildcats of Bay Path College. With the win the AMCATS improve to 12-5 (5-0 NECC) while the Wildcats dip to 2-11 (2-3 NECC).

For Dalbec it was a record-setting day, in just 15 games the center forward broke the AMCAT record for points (40) in a season, she currently sits with 42 points (17 goals, 8 assists) and counting. Former AMCAT  Marybeth McClune ('13)set the record last season.

The match was scoreless for the first eight minutes of play until AMC's Lowe sent a cross from the left wing into the circle to Dalbec's stick in front of the cage, where she finished the play at the 8:22 mark for the 1-0 edge.

Wildcats netminder Anna Meyer (Millbrook, NY) stood on her head all day long making save after save on the AMCATS top line. The sophomore stopped 19-of-20 shots on net in the first half to keep it a 1-0 game headed into intermission.

Lowe wasted little time doubling the score in the second half, when she corralled a crossing pass from senior Shannon Looney (Leicester, Mass.) and deposited the shot in the upper right corner of the net for the 2-0 advantage. For Looney, who had recently become the AMC record-holder for games played (78) in a career, it was her fourth assist of the season.

Sophomore Kayla Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) increased the home team lead to 3-0, at the 62:06 mark. The right wing one-timed a perfect lead pass from Dalbec for her sixth marker of the season.

The AMCATS capped of the scoring with 44 seconds remaining in the contest, when sophomore Katherine Landanno stroked a penalty shot past Meyer, her second in as many games, for the 4-0 final.

The AMCATS played a stifling defense in front of goaltender Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, NH), who recorded her fifth shutout of the season.

Meyer finished the day with 33 saves in the loss, while teammate Elizabeth Deane contributed two defensive saves.
