Lady AMCATS Fall to Monks In Field Hockey Action, 3-0

Paxton, Mass. – The Anna Maria College field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to the visiting Monks of Saint Joseph's College (Maine) in non-conference action at AMCAT field on Saturday afternoon. The win propels St. Joe's (ME) to 2-0, while the Lady AMCATS dip to 1-3.

Three different Monks tipped the twine in the second half, after a scoreless first half, over an eight minute span.  Freshman Kelsey Dumond (Lewiston, Maine) broke the scoreless tie twenty-one minutes into the second stanza. After a defensive penalty corner Dumond tipped an initial shot from the top of the circle from teammate Carley Denis (Lewiston, Maine) for the 1-0 score.

Just three minutes later junior Effie Drew (Portland, Maine) finished off a scrum in front of the AMCAT net to double the Monks lead. Senior Rachelle Messuri (Atkinson, NH) added a late insurance goal for the 3-0 final.

Freshman goalkeeper Emma Astbury (Bridgewater, VT) made two saves for the win, her counterpart AMCATS net minder Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, NH) had six saves in the loss.

The AMCATS  could only muster five shots on the day, sophomore Kayla Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) led the way with two attempts.

Anna Maria returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Rivier College at 4:30 pm, while St. Joe's (ME) travels to Johnson & Wales tomorrow for a 1:00 pm match-up.
