Field Hockey: Moran Tricks Becker

LEICESTER, Mass.- Anna Maria College freshman Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.)  tallied a hat trick to help the AMCATS defeat Becker College 4-1 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey action at Alumni Field on Wednesday afternoon. The win lifts the AMCATS record to 10-5 (3-0 NECC), while the Hawks remain winless 0-15 (0-3 NECC).

The AMCATS got on the board just 1:49 into the game when Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) set up Moran for her third goal of the season. The Hawks tied the game with 2:21 remaining in the first half when Amy Giguere (Colrain, Mass.) fed Michelle Griczika (Barre, Mass.) in front of the AMCATS net for her second goal of the season.

Anna Maria regained the lead in the 44th minute when Katie Moran slid a shot through the five hole of Becker goalie Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, N.J.), off a pass from Dalbec, for her second goal of the contest. The first-year player completed the hat trick with 6:28 remaining in regulation when she gathered a rebound near the right post and shot it past the dive of Dilkes to put Anna Maria in front 3-1.  The AMCATS put the game on of reach 1:18 later when junior Nicole Lowe (Saugas, Mass.) scored an unassisted marker, her seventh goal of the season.

Becker goalkeepers Gabrielle Gallo (Northport, N.Y.) and Samantha-Jo Dilkes split the game in net, making nine stops in a losing effort.  Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) made two saves for the AMCATS for her tenth win of the season.

Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday, October 19 when they host NECC rival Wheelock College at 12:00 p.m. Becker will shoot for their first when of the season on Sunday, October 20 when they travel to Daniel Webster College at 2:00 p.m.
