Lowe Leads AMCATS to 2-1 Win, Breen Sets Record

Nashua – The Anna Maria College field hockey team capped off a perfect 6-0 New England Collegiate Conference regular season with a 2-1 triumph over Daniel Webster in the regular season finale for both clubs Friday at Harvey Woods Field.

Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) scored both goals for the AMCATS (12-7, 6-0 NECC), who won the NECC regular season crown outright with the victory. Lowe's eventual game-winner came in the 48th minute off the rebound of a Nicole Morrison (Rutland, Mass.) shot.

Lowe had put the visitors ahead in the 14th minute off a Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) pass but the Eagles would tie it on senior Samantha Bark's (Belfast, Maine) unassisted score in the 33rd.

DWC (2-12, 1-5 NECC) pressed in the second half but couldn't get the equalizer. Anna Maria finished with a 16-5 advantage in shots on goal and 17-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Danielle Melanson (Derry, N.H.) finished with 12 stops for DWC, while Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) made four saves for Anna Maria to notch her 12th win of the season. With the win the freshman netminder becomes the AMCATS single season record holder for wins in a season. She breaks the mark of 11 set by Rachel Braier in 2005.

Prior to the contest, DWC honored four seniors – Bark, Samantha Cotoni (Groton, Mass.), Melissa Kelly (Hill, N.H.) and Maeghan Farrelly (Jamestown, R.I.).

The AMCATS will host a semi-final NECC game on Wednesday, October 31st at 6:00pm. The opponent has yet to be determined.
