McClune Nets 4 goals, Lowe Sets AMCAT Record

Paxton, Mass. – Senior Marybeth McClune (Worcester, Mass.) scored four goals and sophomore Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) set the AMCAT record for assists in a season as the Anna Maria College Field Hockey team defeated visiting Bay Path College 6-0 in New England Collegiate Conference action today at AMCAT field.

With the win the AMCATS improve to 9-7 on the season and remain undefeated 3-0 in conference play. Bay Path's record drops to 0-10 (0-4 NECC) in 2012.

In addition to McClune's four tallies, senior Brooke Denver (New Britain, Conn.) added a goal and two helpers while defender Shannon Looney (Leicester, Mass.) notched her third goal of the season. Freshman Kylie Dalbec (Portland, ME) and Kayla Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) each added assists.

The AMCATS opened the scoring just 2:37 into the game when Dalbec tipped a cross from Lapierre onto McClune's stick for the eventual game winner. Anna Maria made it 2-0 in the 20th minute off an offensive penalty corner. Denver made a soft pass out that went around the horn to Lapierre who drove it weak side post to McClune for the score.

McClune would add one more before halftime for the 3-0 lead at the break.

Lowe's record setting 12 assist of the season came shortly into the second stanza, the center forward made a nifty crossing pass from the right wing to a wide open McClune on the left side. Lowe broke the nearly twenty-one year old record set by Lisa Bourgery in 1991.

Anna Maria added two more goals by Looney, off a well-designed corner play and Denver off a scramble in front of the net for the 6-0 final.

Bay Path was led by Deanna Flagg who had four shots on goal and goaltender Anna Meyer made twelve saves on the day.

Freshman Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, NH) earned her third shutout of the season making five saves in the conference victory.

The AMCATS look to keep their 4 game win streak intact on Saturday morning when they host NECC rival Regis College at 11:00 am. The AMCATS will honor the senior class in a short pre-game ceremony.
