AMCATS Sweep ECHA Weekly Awards

PAXTON, MA: The AMCATS of the Anna Maria College women's ice hockey team have swept the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) weekly awards for the week ending December 12, 2021, with junior forward Sara Sammons (Western Australia, AUS), junior goalkeeper Julia Smith (Chillwack, BC) and freshman forward Jordyn Bleaney (Nanoose Bay, BC) each being recognized.

Sammons was named the ECHA Player of the Week after scored the go-ahead goal and eventual game winner with 1:13 to go in the second during the AMCATS 3-1 win over the Vikings of Salem State on Friday evening. It is Sammons' second POW award after being previously recognized for the week ending November 28th. For the season, Sammons leads Anna Maria in goals and points.

Bleaney was named the ECHA Rookie of the Week after scoring the insurance goal 3:58 into the third period during Anna Maria's 3-1 win over Salem State on Friday, clinching the win for the AMCATS. Bleaney had previously been recognized as the Alliance's top rookie for the week ending November 21st.

Smith was named Goaltender of the Week after stopping 34 of 35 shots on goal on Friday in the AMCATS 3-1 win over Salem State. For the season, Smith leads Anna Maria this season in wins (3) and save percentage (.926).

The AMCATS are headed into their winter break, but they'll be back on the ice on Friday, January 14th when they play host to Lebanon Valley University in an 8:00 p.m. game.
