No. 3 Monks Top No. 2 AMCATS in GNAC Field Hockey Semifinal

DEERING, Maine—The second-seeded Monks of Saint Joseph's College scored three goals before the Anna Maria College field hockey team could respond, as the Monks took the 3-1 victory in the semifinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tournament.

With the win, the Monks improve to 13-6 overall and advance to the championship game on Saturday against top-seeded Simmons College, while the AMCATS see their tournament run end at 13-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Monks scored all three of their goals on just four total shots in the game. Anna Maria outshot their hosts, tallying nine shots, six of which were on-target. Saint Joseph's held a 7-4 edge in penalty corners in the win.

In the 29th minute, the AMCATS had a chance for a first-half goal as they were awarded a penalty stroke, but senior Kylie Dalbec's (Portland, Maine) shot was wide.

SCORING

The Monks scored their first goal just 2:30 into the game and added a second first-half tally in the 33rd minute. A third tally in the 41st minute gave the hosts a 3-0 lead. Three different players scored for the Monks: Kara Kelly scored the first goal, Michalia Parent potted the second, and Kelsey Dumond added the third. Both Parent and Dumond recorded assists in the win.

Nearly 28 minutes later, the AMCATS managed break up the shutout with a goal by Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.), assisted by Dalbec. Dalbec paced the AMCATS on the day with three shots and two shots-on-goal.

GOALTENDERS

Anna Maria goaltender Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) recorded one save in the complete-game effort, while Saint Joseph's Megan Baker recorded three saves in the victory.

WHAT'S NEXT

The AMCATS submitted a bid to the 2015 ECAC New England Tournament. The ECAC will announce brackets following the completion of the conference tournament.
