Field Hockey Shuts Out NEC, 2-0

HENNIKER, N.H.— Anna Maria College field hockey used two first half goals to lift them past the New England College Pilgrims 2-0 Saturday afternoon.

With the win the AMCATS even their overall record at 3-3, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 0-5 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

A strong defense and a hungry offense helped lift the AMCATS to the 2-0 victory over the Pilgrims. The offense was only seeing the back of the net this afternoon as both goals were scored off of rebounds from the pads of the Pilgrim's netminder. The Pilgrim offense finished the game with just four shots on net, while the AMCATS posted 12 shots on goal.

SCORING

First Half: Anna Maria wasted no time getting on the board as Kayla Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) netted her third goal of the season thanks to a feed from behind by teammate Jacqueline Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) just eight minutes into the game.  The AMCATS would soon extend their lead to 2-0 as Lauren Beauregard (Hubbardston, Mass.) would pick up a loose ball in the circle and fire in an unassisted shot from 15 yards up at the 14:20 mark.

Second Half: Neither team would muster second half score as the AMCATS best scoring opportunity came in the 54th minute as Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.) would get off a look at an empty net but NEC defender Amy Belanger (Whitefield, N.H.) would come up with the defensive save.

NETMINDERS

Picking up the shutout win in goal for Anna Maria was Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) who finished the afternoon with four saves.  In goal for NEC was Michaela Clark (Dorchester, Mass.) who notched 10 saves on the afternoon.
