Field Hockey Shuts Out Elms, 3-0

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College field hockey team scored three times in the first nine minutes of the contest en route to a 3-0 win against the Blazers of Elms College in Tuesday's non-conference matchup.

With the win, the AMCATS improve to 4-3, while the loss drops the Blazers to 0-4.

HISTORY

Today's win marked the sixth-straight win for the AMCATS against the Blazers. In last season's 4-3 overtime win, Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) scored all four Anna Maria goals to become the program's all-time leading scorer.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The AMCATS dominated the opening minutes of play, scoring all three goals in the first nine minutes of action. Scoring halted after that, but the AMCATS held an 11-7 advantage in shots in the first half and a 15-8 edge in the second half.

SCORING

First Half: Coming off the the sidelines, Dalbec intercepted the ball and swiftly dribbled down the field before crossing it to Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.) on the right side. Moran proceeded to bury the shot for the AMCATS first goal of the game at the 5:40 mark.

In the eighth minute, Dalbec registered a goal of her own, firing from the left inside the circle and sneaking her ball through a scrum in the front of the goaltender. Seconds later, Nicole Denver (Springfield, Mass.) made it 3-0 with her lone score of the day.  

GOALTENDERS

Anna Maria's starting netminder, senior Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, Mass.) took the win and tallied five saves in just over 24 minutes of action. She was relieved by Bryanna Tobin (Deep River, Conn.), who added an additional seven saves in the final 45 minutes.

Jillian Lapponese (Enfield, Conn.) took the loss for Elms despite stopping 12 shots.

Anna Maria opens Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Thursday when it hosts Mount Ida in a 4:00 p.m. tilt.
