Breen Tallies 18 Saves in Field Hockey Opener at ECSU

MANSFIELD, Conn.—Senior goaltender Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, Mass.) totaled 18 saves on the day, but it was not enough as the Anna Maria College field hockey team dropped a 5-0 loss to Eastern Connecticut State University in the season opener for both teams.

STORY LINE

The Warriors dominated Anna Maria throughout, holding the AMCATS to just two shots on the day—both on-net tallies in the first half from senior Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) and junior Kayla Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.).

SCORING

First Half: Mackenzie Brower netted the first goal of 2014 in the 17th minute on an unassisted score from the right side of the circle, besting Breen low to the left. At the 23:09 mark, Hannah Keiser stuffed home a pass from Alexandra Steward to take the 2-0 lead into halftime.

Second Half: Brower netted her second tally of the day 14 minutes into the second half on a set play from Alex Kallgren on top to Brower, positioned on the corner. In the 60th minute, Kallgren scored a goal of her own, as she scored on a rebound off of Breen's pads. Eight minutes later, Elly Walker scored her first goal of the season on an assist by Caroline Regan.
