Field Hockey Takes Charge against Bison in 6-3 Victory

DUDLEY, Mass.—The Anna Maria College field hockey team saw two goals each from Kayla Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.), Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.) and Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) as the AMCATS downed the Bison of Nichols College 6-3 in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon.

The win is the third-straight for the AMCATS, who improve to 9-4 on the season. The loss drops the Bison to 1-10.

THE SERIES

It marks the first time the AMCAT field hockey team has won against Nichols in the last decade. The two teams have not met since the 2010 season, the last season in which Anna Maria competed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The AMCATS posted an even attack, scoring three goals in each half and leading 3-0 at halftime. Anna Maria was dominant throughout the contest, holding a 28-13 advantage in shots and a 10-7 edge in penalty corners.

SCORING

First Half: Lapierre got things going with back-to-back goals in the 13th and 16th minutes. The team held the 2-0 lead for nearly 20 minutes of action until Dalbec netted an unassisted tally in the 34th minute after stuffing home a defensive rebound.

Second Half: Nichols refused to go down without a fight as the hosts scored the first two goals of the second half on tallies by Brianna Kilborn and Victoria Utter in the 38th and 47th minutes.

Moran opened up a two-goal lead less than two minutes later when she collected a pass from Dalbec on the left and stuffed it into the corner of the net.

Nichols set the score at 4-3 in the 53rd minute on a second score by Kilborn, but Dalbec and Moran added second tallies of their own in the 60th and 69th minutes to claim the victory.

GOALKEEPERS

Senior netminder Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) recorded one save in 52:37 of action to win her ninth game in net this season. She was relieved by Bryanna Tobin (Deep River, Conn.), who made one save in just over 17 minutes of action.

Nichols goaltender Katherine Cotton had a busy day in net and totaled 11 saves in the complete-game effort.
