Field Hockey Snaps Steak against Clark with 3-2 Overtime Win

PAXTON, Mass.—Junior Kaitlyn Moran (Leicester, Mass.) tapped in the game-winning shot in the 88th minute to lead the Anna Maria College field hockey team to a 3-2 double-overtime win against the Cougars of Clark University on Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

With the win, the AMCATS improve to 6-3, while the loss drops the Cougars to 2-5.

SNAPPING THE STREAK

The AMCATS entered tonight's game with nine-straight losses to Clark, dating back to the 2006 season. Tonight's win marks the first since Anna Maria pulled a 1-0 overtime win against Clark on October 6, 2005. Altogether, the AMCATS have won just four times in a longstanding series with their local foes.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The AMCATS

Anna Maria took an early lead and carried it through halftime, but Clark held a 2-1 scoring edge in the second half to force overtime. The first overtime period was scoreless and saw five saves by Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) to keep the game alive.

Just over two minutes into the second overtime period, Kayla Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) pushed the ball to Moran, who netted the game-winner to seal the win. WATCH THE GAME-WINNING GOAL HERE.

Anna Maria dominated the stat sheet this evening, recording a 23-12 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in penalty corners.

SCORING

First Half: In the 12th minute of the game, Anna Maria found themselves on a 2-on-1 with the Clark goalkeeper. Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) carried the ball down to the middle of the circle, drawing the attention of Clark netminder Christine Tinsman. Once Tinsman committed, Dalbec swiftly passed the ball to Nicole Denver (Springfield, Mass.) on her left, who buried the shot into the open net.

Second Half: In the 49th minute, Clark scored a similar goal, as Olivia Cotton fed the ball in from just a step inside the circle to Lauren Mackey, who had beat Breen by a step.

In the 60th minute, Dalbec was awarded a penalty stroke, which she buried high above the goalkeeper to put the AMCATS up 2-1. WATCH DALBEC'S PENALTY STROKE

The lead was short-lived, as five minutes later Alyssa Williams massed to Mackey for her second score of the day.

Overtime: Moran's streak-snapping goal in the 88th minute was the fourth of her season.

GOALKEEPERS

Tinesman totaled 12 saves for Clark today, while Breen totaled nine saves, including five crucial saves in the first overtime segment.
