Field Hockey Comes Up Short To First-Place Colby-Sawyer

PAXTON, MA : In their final home game of the season, the Anna Maria College field hockey team lost 1-0 to visiting Colby-Sawyer College on Friday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Caparso Field in Paxton.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The AMCATS played the Chargers, currently tied for first in the GNAC standings, evenly in the first quarter, showing an impressive aggression and creating multiple scoring opportunities. Colby-Sawyer finally broke through in the 19th minute, as freshman forward Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) found the back of the net for her tenth goal of the season on an unassisted shot. 1-0 would hold up going into halftime, and ultimately the end of the game.
  • Shots were 19-12 in favor of the Chargers, while corners were 18-5.
  • Anna Maria junior goalkeeper Hannah Tobey (Falmouth, MA) put up a valiant effort, with eight saves in the near-shutout of the number two offense in the conference.
  • Colby Sawyer junior goalkeeper Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, MA) recorded the shutout victory with seven saves.

Anna Maria will conclude their regular season on Wednesday when they travel to Dean College for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
