Field Hockey Drops Opener To Worcester State

- PAXTON, MASS. : The Anna Maria College field hockey team played their first game in almost two years on Thursday evening, opening their 2021 season with a 5-0 home loss to Worcester State University.

THE BASICS:

- Records: Lancers of Worcester State (1-0) | AMCATS of Anna Maria (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Anna Maria junior goalkeeper Hannah Tobey (Falmouth, MA) finished with three saves in 52 minutes in net for the AMCATS. Junior forward Alana Trotto (Worcester, MA) led the hosts with two shots.
  • Worcester State junior midfielder Carly Duff (Warren, Mass.) scored two goals to lead the Lancers, with both of her shots-on-goal finding the back of the net.
  • Senior forward Hope Makey (Clinton, Mass.), senior midfielder Lexie Panagiotopoulos (Lowell, Mass.) and junior midfielder Molly Cutting (Auburn, Mass.) each scored a goal on the day. Cutting's score off a corner 19:38 into the winner proved to be the eventual game-winner.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Sam Gastonguay (Ashburnham, Mass.) picked up the shutout with two saves.
