Field Hockey Hosts Simmons On Senior Day

PAXTON, MA : The Anna Maria College field hockey team lost 4-1 to visiting Simmons University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Caparso Field in Paxton.

SENIOR DAY:

Prior to the game, the AMCATS recognized their graduating senior class as part of senior day. Forwards Brittney Cherry (Worcester, MA) and Allyson Shaw (Worcester, MA) and midfielders Abigayle Celata (Baldwinville, MA) and Chayna Bingham-Hendricks (Mashpee, MA) have each made outstanding contributions to not only the Anna Maria field hockey program but to the entire campus community as a whole. Although their time on the playing field may be coming to an end, they will forever be a part of the AMCAT family.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Bingham-Hendricks scored Anna Maria's sole goal of the day, that coming just 15 seconds into the second quarter.
  • Simmons first year attacker Sydney Gonyea (Lebanon, NH) led the Sharks with two goals and an assist. Gonyea's shot off a corner in the sixth minute of the game proved to be the eventual game-winner.
  • Simmons first year attacker Anna Tedeschi (Hanover, MA) scored twice in the second half for the Sharks to put the game out of reach.
  • Anna Maria junior goalkeeper Hannah Tobey (Falmouth, MA) tallied four saves for the AMCATS.
  • Simmons junior goalkeeper Emma Sheehan (Taunton, MA) finished with four stops in a near shutout.

                                                                                                                     

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be back on the field on Tuesday evening when they travel to Johnson & Wales University for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
