Field Hockey Ends Season In GNAC Playoffs

NEW LONDON, CT : The Anna Maria College field hockey team saw their 2021 season come to a close on Saturday in New London, Connecticut as they lost a heartbreaking 1-0 double-overtime contest to top-seeded host Colby-Sawyer College in the quarterfinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference at Caparso Field in Paxton.

  • Records: Chargers of Colby-Sawyer (15-3) | AMCATS of Anna Maria (5-13)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Anna Maria junior goalkeeper Hannah Tobey (Falmouth, MA) put up one of the most heroic performances the AMCATS have seen all years as she stopped the first 11 shots she faced, putting her team on her back and carrying them into overtime. Tobey was a mere 12 seconds away from sending the game into a shootout.
  • Colby-Sawyer junior Aoife Daly (Harwich, MA) scored the game-winner with 12 seconds left in the double-overtime, her 18th goal of the season.
  • The Chargers enjoyed a 27-6 advantage in shots.
