Baseball : Six AMCATS Voted D3baseball.com All-Region

PAXTON, MA: A school-record six players from the Anna Maria College baseball team were voted to the 2022 D3baseball.com All-Region 1 team as announced on Tuesday.

Senior right-fielder Jason Shell (Sandwich, MA) and freshman right-handed pitcher Nick Choate (Grafton, MA) were voted All-Region second team while senior shortstop Kosta Drosidis (Holden, MA), junior transfer centerfielder Hunter Dunithan (Reno, NV), junior transfer designated hitter Elijah Spataj (Cheshire, CT) and freshman first baseman Jeremy Rosenberg (Boynton Beach, FL) were voted third team honors.

Shell, who had already been voted the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Year and had already been named the 2022 Breakout Athlete of the Year at the Anna Maria College Athletics Department Awards, hit .382 with four home runs and 33 runs batted in for the AMCATS in 40 games this season. Shell tied the school's single-season record for triples in a season with five while his 60 hits and 95 total bases this season rank him third all-time. Shell set the Anna Maria's all-time record in career stolen bases at 34 while ranking second all-time in school history in career doubles with 42. His 270 total bases on his career rank him third all-time.

Choate, who claimed both the GNAC Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards, produced one of the most explosive performances ever by an AMCAT pitcher, as he posted a 3.29 earned-runs-against average with 64 strikeouts over 41 innings. As of press time, Choate ranks second in the entire nation in fewest hits allowed per nine innings pitched at 4.17 while his 14.05 strikeouts per nine innings currently rank him third in the nation. He ranked second in the GNAC in ERA and strikeouts. During the season, Choate was named NCBWA Rookie of the Week twice while also being named to the d3baseball.com Team of the Week once, the GNAC Rookie of the Week three times and the GNAC Pitcher of the Week twice.

Drosidis makes his second straight D3baseball.com All-Region team, as the star shortstop furthered his storied career in 2022, setting the school's all-time record in career home runs with 20 while shattering the previous mark by six. His 60 hits this season are the second-most ever by an AMCAT while his fourteen doubles were also second all-time. His 37 runs batted-in are the fourth-most in a single season. Drosidis was voted to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) first team for the third consecutive season, and was ultimately recognized as the Anna Maria College Male Athlete of the Year. For his career, he is currently first all-time in career slugging (.637) and is second all-time in career batting average (.384), runs batted in (120) and on-base percentage (.458) while ranking third in hits (170) and fourth in runs scored (111).

Dunithan had an outstanding first year with the AMCATS, setting the school's single-season record for stolen bases with 29, hitting .345 with 20 runs batted in. Spataj led the team with 39 runs batted in while tying for the team lead in home runs with seven. Rosenberg was a revelation at first base, hitting .372 with three home runs and 25 runs batted in in just 33 games while being voted first team All-GNAC as well as to the All-Rookie and All-Defensive teams.

The 2022 season saw the AMCATS set a new standard for the program for years to come. The team set a modern school records in regular-season wins (23), runs (289) and home runs (31).
