Choate Named GNAC Pitcher, Rookie Of The Week

PAXTON, MA: Freshman right-handed pitcher Nick Choate (Grafton, MA) of the Anna Maria College baseball team has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 10, 2022 in an announcement by the conference on Tuesday. Choate was also named the GNAC Rookie of the Week for the same period.

Choate was unbelievable on Sunday against Rivier University in his first career start, pitching five flawless innings and striking out five as the AMCATS delivered a combined perfect game. Earlier in the week, Choate was lights out against Albertus Magnus, pitching four innings of no-hit ball in relief and striking out nine Falcons for his first career win. For the week, the rookie went 2-0 with 14 strikeouts over nine innings and a 0.00 ERA. He has not allowed an earned run, in fact, since March 23rd.

Choate is the second AMCAT to be named GNAC Pitcher of the Week this season, joining junior right-handed pitcher Bob Ross (Rochester, MA), who was recognized for the week ending March 20th. He is also the second Anna Maria player to be named the GNAC Rookie of the Week for this year, joining freshman first baseman Jeremy Rosenberg (Boynton Beach, FL) who was so recognized for the week ending April 3rd.

For the season, Choate enters Monday with a 3.38 earned-runs against average with 34 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings. He currently leads the AMCATS in ERA, strikeouts and strikeouts-per-nine-innings.
