No Illinois Blues For Baseball In Florida

DAVENPORT, FL: The Anna Maria College baseball team won 9-2 over Illinois College on Wednesday evening at the RussMatt Invitational in Davenport, Florida.

THE BASICS:

TURNING POINT:

  • The AMCATS used a series of singles to build up a 5-0 lead through the first six innings, then held on with a strong pitching performance by freshman relief pitcher Nick Choate (Grafton, MA) who pitched three-and-one-thirds shutout innings for his first career save.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Anna Maria senior right-fielder Jason Shell (Sandwich, MA) was a force in the leadoff spot, going three-for-five with three RBI singles and a stolen base on the night.
  • Anna Maria junior outfielder Hunter Dunithan (Reno, NV) had his second straight three-hit game, driving in an insurance run off an RBI triple and crossing home plate four times.
  • Anna Maria senior shortstop Kosta Drosidis (Holden, MA), fresh off his walk-off base hit against Thomas on Tuesday, totaling three hits including a double.
  • Anna Maria senior catcher Noah Holland (Sandwich, MA) doubled in two runs in the top of the ninth, while freshman first baseman Jeremy Rosenberg (Boynton Beach, FL), senior second baseman Jarrod Marifiote (Framingham, MA) and junior designated hitter Elijah Spataj (Cheshire, CT) all drove in runs as well.
  • Anna Maria freshman left-handed pitcher Michael Shorey (Northbridge, MA) picked up his second career win with four strikeouts.
