MARLBOROUGH, MA: The Anna Maria College baseball team won both ends of a doubleheader against Johnson & Wales on Saturday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at MHS Bauks Field in Marlborough.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • In the third inning of game two, senior shortstop Kosta Drosidis (Holden, MA) hit a double to the left-centerfield gap that drove in junior centerfielder Hunter Dunithan (Reno, NV) moving into second place on the AMCATS career doubles list.
  • Two innings later, Drosidis became the AMCATS all-time leader in home runs, hitting his second of the year and the 15th of his career.
  • GAME One – Senior right-handed pitcher Filli Veras (Sleepy Hollow, NY) continued his streak of dominant pitching improving to 3-2 on the year behind seven innings of five-hit shutout ball. It was the second consecutive seven-inning complete-game shutout for Veras.
  • Game Two – The AMCATS offense came to life in game two as the AMCATS scored a season-high 20 runs. It was the most runs that the AMCATS have scored since April 18th of last year when they scored 22 against Rivier.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Drosidis was 3-6 across both games, with four runs scored and three driven in.
  • Junior designated hitter Elijah Spataj (Cheshire, CT) drove in six, including four in game two alone.
  • Dunithan had five hits in the second game, including three doubles. He also stole two bags, increasing his GNAC lead to 17.
  • Senior third baseman Nick Genatossio (Sutton, MA) had three extra-base hits, a triple, and two doubles while driving in two.
  • The AMCATS had 20 RBI in the second game, increasing their GNAC leading total to 137, 44 more than second-place Norwich's total of 93.

Anna Maria will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Albertus Magnus College for a GNAC double-header.
