Baseball Uses Quick Start To Down Falcons

Northborough, MA: The Anna Maria College baseball team came out hitting early to score six runs in the first inning and evened their record at 5-5 on the year.    

THE BASICS:

HIGHLIGHTS

The AMCATS batted around in the opening frame, scoring six runs on six hits including RBI doubles from junior left fielder James Powers (Folsom, CA) and junior designated hitter Elijah Spataj (Cheshire, CT). Junior outfielder Hunter Dunithan (Reno, NV) was on base twice in the inning, leading off the inning with a single to left center before stealing second and scoring on Powers double. He would later reach on an error by the shortstop, recording an RBI of his own.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Senior infielder Kosta Drosidis (Holden, MA) was 3-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Drosidis' three hits increased his GNAC leading batting average to .476.

Dunithan and senior right fielder James Shell were both 2-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Dunithan also had two stolen bases, increasing his GNAC leading total to eight.

Junior left fielder James Powers (Folsom, CA) had two hits and two stolen bases with one run scored.

Freshman left-handed pitcher Michael Shorey (Northbridge, MA) worked around two first inning hits while striking out two to earn his GNAC leading third win.

Junior right-handed pitcher Bob Ross (Rochester, MA) pitched five innings of four hit ball, giving up one run.

Devin Lorae (Canton, GA), Connor Morehouse (Wetherby Lake, MO), and Vincent Eramo (Shirley, MA) all had two hits for the Falcons. Eramo had two RBI, while Morehouse hit his second home run of the year to account for all of the visitors runs.

Anna Maria will look to continue their winning ways when they host Castleton University on Friday, March 18th at the New England Baseball Complex for two games. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2pm.
