PAXTON, MA: Freshman right-handed pitcher Nick Choate (Grafton, MA) of the Anna Maria College baseball team has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division III Rookie of the Week for the week ending May 1, 2022 in an announcement by the association late Wednesday.

Choate capped off his incredible rookie regular season with a complete game shutout win over Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Norwich on Friday, as he struck out 11 Cadets and allowed just two hits and two walks over seven innings. At press time, Choate was second in the conference in ERA and was leading the entire nation in fewest hits allowed per nine innings pitched, and ranked ninth in the NCAA in strikeouts per nine innings.

It is the second time this year that Choate has been named to the NCBWA weekly team, as he was previously so recognized for the week ending April 10th.

Choate had already been named the GNAC Rookie of the Week and the Pitcher of the Week for the same period.
