HIGHLIGHTS

  • GAME ONE – Freshman right-handed pitcher Nick Choate (Grafton, MA) limited the Lasers offense to only two hits, but was undone by six walks in five and two-third innings. He was consistently ahead of hitters 2-0 but was unable to finish them off. While the AMCATS offense never found a gear. Despite outhitting the Lasers seven to two the AMCATS were let down by leaving seven men on base. The loan AMCATS run came in the fifth inning when Jason Shell (Sandwich, MA) doubled home junior designated hitter Elijah Spataj (Cheshire, CT) to cut the Lasers' lead to 2-1 at the time.
  • GAME TWO – In game two the AMCATS offense woke up. In the first inning, the AMCATS managed to load the bases with no one out. Hunter Dunithan popped up down the rightfield line that the Lasers' first baseman eventually was able to get under and catch as he was falling to the ground. Shell was able to take up and score from third providing the only run that starter Anthony Pingeton (Charlton, MA) would need.
    • Pingeton was dominant from start to finish, only allowing two hitters to get past first base the entire game. It was the second win in as many appearances for Pingeton and his complete-game shutout extended his current scoreless streak to 11 innings across three games.
    • The big offensive inning came for the AMCATS in the third. Shell led off the inning with a shot to left that rattled around in the corner allowing him to get all the way to third with a triple. Two batters later, Jeremy Rosenberg (Boynton Beach, FL) singled through the right side to bring Shell home before moving to second on a wild pitch. After a ground out by James Powers (Folsom, CA) moved Rosenberg to third. Junior center fielder Hunter Dunithan walked and then proceeded to steal second, increasing his GNAC leading total to 25. Spataj was able to bring both home with a single to center.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The AMCATS got stolen bases from both Dunithan and Shell in game two, increasing their GNAC lead to 56 bags against only 11 times caught stealing.
  • The AMCATS offense continues to lead the GNAC in runs, hits, doubles, RBIs, batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. The AMCATS are also tied for the league lead in triples and home runs.
