Drosidis Ties Home Run Mark As Baseball Splits

NORTHBOROUGH, MA: The Anna Maria College baseball team split their Friday double-header today with Castleton University at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, winning game one, 12-5, before falling short in the nightcap, 14-4.   

THE BASICS:

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The AMCATS blew the first game wide open with a seven run fourth inning that was highlighted by a grand slam by Senior left-fielder Jason Shell (Sandwich, MA). It was Shell's GNAC leading third homerun of the year. Senior shortstop Kosta Drosidis then made it back-to-back AMCAT homeruns, homering to left field. Drosidis' home run tied him for the program career home run record with 14, matching him with former AMCAT great Jeff Scafidi. Freshman right-hander Michael Shorey scattered six hits over five innings, giving up five runs, three earned and striking out five and improved his record to 4-0 on the year.
  • The second game was all Castleton University who scored two, two and one run in the first three innings before exploding for nine runs in the 4th. Zack Marlow (Plattsburgh, NY) threw four innings of one-hit shut-out ball for the Spartans to get his first win of the season.
  • INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The AMCATS hit a season high five homeruns in the first game. Clearing the fences were Shell (third of the season), Drosidis (first), Senior first baseman Nick Morley (Milbury, MA) (first), senior third baseman Nick Genatossio (Sutton, MA) (second), and senior catcher Noah Holland (Sandwich, MA) (first).
  • Hollands three RBIs in the first game brings his team leading total to 12 through only 12 games. He was 3-5 on the day with two runs scored.
  • Junior center-fielder Hunter Dunithan was 3-6 on the day with two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Junior left fielder James Powers (Folsom, CA) had two hits and two stolen bases with one run scored.
  • Freshman right-handed pitcher / infielder Nick Choate (Grafton, MA) pitched the final two innings of the first game, striking out five without allowing a run.
  • Reece DeCastro (Rutland, VT) was 4-7 with three doubles, four runs scored and an RBI between both games for the Spartans.
  • Castleton's Hunter Perkins (Quechee, VT) was 2-5 with a double and a triple and drove in three runs and stole a base for the day.           

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be back in action on Sunday when they host New England College on Sunday, March 20th at MHS Bauks Field in Marlborough for two games. First pitch of game one is scheduled for noon.
