D3 Baseball and ABCA Announce All-Region Teams

PAXTON, MA — Earlier this week D3baseball.com and the ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) announced their All-Region teams for the spring season.The Anna Maria College baseball team had four players named to the D3 Baseball All-Region teams and three players named to the ABCA All-Region teams.

D3 Baseball: The 2023 season marked the eleventh year that D3baseball.com has named All-Region teams, with more than 1,000 players nominated. The ballot was then made available to D3baseball.com staff and contributors from which three teams in each region were determined. 

ABCA: Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 40 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include nine divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel.

James Powers was named to the D3 Baseball First Team and ABCA Second Team after a lights out performance this spring. Powers played in 42 games this season boasting 49 runs, 64 hits and 10 homers throughout 155 at bats. Powers also led the AMCATS with a .413 batting average. 

Jarrod Marifiote was named to the D3 Baseball Second Team and ABCA Third Team after a breakthrough season with the AMCATS. The grad student played in 41 games this season putting up 38 runs, 61 hits and 8 homers throughout 150 at bats. Marifiote also broke the schools single season RBI record with 50 and If that wasn't enough, Jarrod also held a .407 batting average at the end of the season, thus earning him the GNAC Player of the Year award for 2023.

Anthony Pingeton was named to the D3 Baseball Second Team with thirteen appearances on the mound for the AMCATS. Having started ten games this season, Pingeton led the AMCATS with an 8-2 record (most wins in a single season for AMC) with two saves and two complete games. Throughout 66 innings pitched Pingeton struck out 88 batters, soaring him past Zach Rafferty '11 for the most single season strikeouts in AMC history.

Jack Marzec was named to the D3 Baseball Third Team after leading the AMCATS in his sixth season. Marzec appeared in sixteen games this season. Having started five games, Marzec held a 4-2 record with three saves this season in 55.1 innings pitched Marzec struck out 73 batters and held a 2.93 ERA. During the 2023 season Marzec also broke the AMC record for most career strikeouts, closing out his final season with a grand total of 323 strikeouts in 260.1 innings pitched. 

Nick Choate was named to the ABCA Third Team after an incredible sophomore season with the AMCATS. Making eleven appearances on the mound for the AMCATS, Choate struck out 76 batters over the span of 52.2 inning pitched this spring. Choate locked things down on the mound for the AMCATS throwing a complete game no hitter against Albertus Magnus back in April. Choate was 5-1 in his six conference appearances this season.
