Baseball Fall Short In Test At Defending National Champs

STORRS, CT: On Wednesday afternoon, the Anna Maria College Baseball team traveled to Eastern Connecticut State University for a non-conference matchup with the Warriors at the Eastern Baseball Stadium.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The AMCATS scored their lone run in the top of the sixth inning as they strung together three of their four hits on the day. With one out, junior second baseman Christian Villa (Concord, CA) singled through the left side of the infield. Sophomore first baseman Jeremy Rosenberg (Boynton Beach, FL) followed with a single into right field and Villa moved to third putting runners at the corners for graduate student right fielder Jarrod Marifiote (Framingham, MA). Marifiote then drove in his team-leading 27th RBI with a single into center field to score Villa.
  • Senior designated hitter James Powers (Folsom, CA) recorded the AMCATS' only other hit, a single into center field in the eighth inning.
  • Sophomore left fielder Joseph Castellano III (Holmes, NY) was one of only two AMCATS to reach base multiple times, as he worked to lead off the third inning and again with one out in the fifth. The other AMCAT to get on base twice was Villa with his sixth-inning single and a first-inning walk.

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be back in action on Saturday when they will host the Rivier University Raiders for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader at Marlborough High School. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
