Baseball Drop High Scoring Affair to Scots in Extra Innings

WENHAM, MA: On Wednesday afternoon, the Anna Maria College Baseball team traveled to meet the Gordon College Fighting Scots for a non-conference matchup at J. Tec White Field.

THE BASICS:

• Date: Saturday, April 22, 2023
• Score: Anna Maria 11, Gordon 12
• Records: Anna Maria AMCATS 18-17 | Gordon College Fighting Scots 10-23

HIGHLIGHTS

• Senior catcher James Powers (Folsom, CA) had a big day at the plate, going 4-5 with a home run and a double, scoring four runs and driving in two. His home run was a two-run shot in the second inning that also scored graduate student third baseman Nick Genatossio (Sutton, MA). The home run was Powers' team-leading eighth of the season.
• Joining Powers in the homerun column was graduate student right fielder Jarrod Marifiote (Framingham, MA) who recorded his first career multi-homer game, smacking a pair of lead-off home runs in the third and sixth innings. Marifiote had an active day at the plate, in addition to his two home runs, he also walked four times, reaching base in six of his seven plate appearances.
• Genatossio and freshman designated hitter Brady Aylward (Southington, CT) also had multi-hit games. Genatossio was 2-6 while Aylward was 2-3 with three RBI and two walks.
• The combination of Powers, Genatossio, and Marifiote scored 10 of the AMCATS 11 runs.

UP NEXT:

Anna Maria will be back in action on Friday when they will travel to Northfield, VT to face the Norwich Cadets for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader at Garrity Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
