Falcons Soar Past Women's Soccer, 5-0

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College women's soccer team suffered a 5-0 loss to the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College on Friday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Prior to today's game, the AMCATS honored seniors Arianna Masley (Oxford, Mass.) and Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) for their contributions to the program.

The game was scoreless for nearly 29 minutes until Albertus Magnus's Dakotah Sobiech (New Britain, Conn.) took two header shots. Her first shot was stopped by an AMCAT defender positioned on the goal line, but the ball ricocheted back to her, and she pushed the second shot deep into the upper corner.

In the 42nd minute, Kelly Kennedy (North Branford, Conn.) the Falcons' second goal by taking the ball off a defender and dribbling nearly 20 yards before firing a low shot.

The Falcons scored three goals in the second half, beginning with Danielle Polvan's (East Haven, Conn.) sixth goal of the season in the 49th minute.

The Falcons added two more tallies in the 62nd and 80th minutes by Acacia Nelson (Bridgewater, Conn.) and Liziana Silva (Waterbury, Conn.), respectively.

Anna Maria goalkeeper Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine) made six saves in 58:10 of action before an injury forced her to hit the sidelines for the first time this season. She was replaced by junior Teresa Ryan (Shrewsbury, Mass.), who tallied four saves.

Three different Falcon netminders combined for the shutout. The win was earned by Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.), who totaled two saves in 54:31 of action. She gave way to Ryan Clark (Milford, Conn.) and Karla Grajeda (Bridgeport, Conn.), who combined for one save.

The Falcons outshot the AMCATS 29-3 on the afternoon. All three of the AMCATS' shots were on-net, as Sarah Fogg (Gorham, Maine) totaled two shots on goal and Emily Gorrivan (Windham, Maine) finished with one.

Anna Maria will be back in action on Tuesday, October 21 for a 7:00 p.m. GNAC match at Emmanuel. The Falcons host Suffolk on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
