Women's Soccer Falls Short to Coast Guard, 1-0, in Season Opener

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss in the season opener against the Coast Guard Academy, as a goal in the 67th minute proved to be the difference in game, held at AMCAT Field on Friday evening.

Coast Guard's Terry Netusil (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) scored after a corner kick taken by Avery Ayres (Wake Forest, N.C.) bounced off teammate Lindsay Duplessis (Rye, N.H.) and landed in perfect location for a header goal.

It was the only Coast Guard shot to get past AMCATS' freshman goalkeeper Kate Kneeland (Windam, Maine), who recorded 12 saves in her collegiate debut.

The Bears had another opportunity to score late in the second half as Hannah Jansson (Haworth, N.J.) cranked a hard shot at the net from just outside the 20-yard box, but Kneeland batted it down and fell on it to deny Coast Guard the second-chance opportunity.

Coast Guard netminder Holly Moore (Pittsfield, Mass.) was only forced to make one save on the evening, as the Bears outshot the hosts 25-4 over the course of the game.

The AMCATS return to action on Wednesday, September 3rd when they host Daniel Webster College at 4:30 p.m. at AMCAT Field.
