Women's Soccer Finish Season with Win Over Cadets

PAXTON, MA: The Anna Maria College women's soccer team closed out their season when they hosted Norwich University on Wednesday evening for some Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Caparso Field.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Wednesday, October 26, 2022
  • Score: Norwich 0, Anna Maria 2
  • Records: Norwich Cadets 3-13-1 (1-11-1 GNAC) | Anna Maria AMCATS 7-9-2 (3-8-2 GNAC)

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The AMCATS enjoyed its most successful women's soccer season in 16 years. The seven wins overall represent the most the team has recorded since going 7-12 in 2006. The three conference wins are the AMCATS highest total since they also won three TCCC games in 2006 and it represents their highest win total ever in GNAC play.
  • Coach Lindsey Garvey more than doubles her win totals from the previous two seasons combined and moves into fifth place on the AMCATS all-time wins list with 13 wins, one win away from tying Terry Garbutt and James Nitti for third place
  • The AMCATS came out hungry in this game, looking to finish their season on a high note, outshooting their opponent 11 to four while holding a nine-to-nothing edge in corner kicks.
  • The AMCATS' first goal in the 10th minute came off a corner kick by senior defender Meghan Morrone (Westerly, RI) that was put home off the foot of sophomore midfielder Valentina Villa (Norwalk, CT). The goal was Villa's second of the season and third of her career. The assist was also Morrone's second of the year and third of her career.
  • Sophomore forward Riley Michaud (Clinton, MA) gave the AMCATS an insurance goal in the 87th minute when she settled a long feed from graduate midfielder Keannah Dunsmore (Georgia, VT) and was able to move past the Cadets defender as the goalie crashed towards her finish with a shot just out of the goalie's reach.
  • Senior goalkeeper Alice Yokabaskas (Old Orchard Beach, ME) recorded two saves in the game, pushing her season total to a career-high 77.
