Women's Soccer Notches Program Milestone in 3-1 Loss to Lasell

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College women's soccer team fell to the Lasers of Lasell College 3-1 in Saturday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup, despite 21 saves from freshman netminder Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine.)

Senior Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) scored in the 58th minute for the AMCATS to net the program's first-ever goal against the GNAC powerhouse. The two teams had met three times prior to today's game, and the Lasers recorded shutout wins in each game.

Turley's goal was assisted by sophomore Paige Leighton (Georgetown, Mass.). Leighton took a free-kick from 30-yards out and crossed fields to Turley, who was waiting for the one-touch shot at the left corner of the six-yard box.

Kneeland had an impressive day in her fledging career, as she tossed away 21 of the 24 shots-on-goal she faced. In total, the Lasers recorded 40 shots. Kneeland recorded nine saves in the first half and 12 in the second.

Lasell held a 1-0 lead at halftime following a goal by Bridget Lynch (Dover, N.H.) in the eighth minute of the game.

The Lasers struck again three minutes into the second half, as Lynch connected on a baseline cross from Megan Cullen (Amesbury, Mass.).

Lasell would tally one more goal in the 53rd minute as Casey Meissner (Sandwich, Mass.) converted on a 12-yard shot. Lynch assisted on the goal and totaled five points on the afternoon (two goals, one assist).

Lasers goalkeeper Sarah LeClair (Belchertown, Mass.) recorded three saves on the day, as the AMCATS had four of their six shots land on-target today.

With the loss, the AMCATS fall to 3-3 on the season and 0-1 in GNAC play, while the win boosts the Lasers to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in league action.

Anna Maria will be back in action on Wednesday, September 17th when they host Newbury College in non-conference action at 4:30 p.m. The Lasers are idle until September 21st when they take on Amherst College at 2:00 p.m.
