Women's Soccer Bests Pine Manor, 8-0

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College women's soccer team had seven different scorers as the AMCATS downed the visiting Gators of Pine Manor College 8-0 in Monday's non-conference game at AMCAT Field.

With the win, the AMCATS improve to 2-2 on the season, while the loss drops the Gators to 0-3.

Sophomore Melissa Andersen (Oxford, Mass.) started the AMCATS off in the fourth minute by burying a beautiful header shot from inside the six-yard box. Senior Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) assisted on the goal by setting up a feeder from near the left side corner flag.

Seven minutes later, freshman Savanah Catucci (Mahopac, N.Y.) intercepted a clear attempt by a Pine Manor defender. She dribbled the ball for 15 yards and beat the keeper to the low left corner to put the AMCATS up 2-0.

The AMCATS' scoring silenced for nearly 25 minutes until the 35th minute when Rebecca Mauricio (Pawtucket, R.I.) attempted to cross the ball, but instead found her pass deflected off a defender. Mauricio was credited with the AMCATS' third goal of the day on the play.

One minute and 19 seconds later, Sarah Fogg (Gorham, Maine) scored her first goal of the day on a corner kick attempt. Her initial kick was stopped by the keeper, but an unlucky bounce on the save carried the ball over the goal line.

Fogg recorded her second goal of the day just five minutes into the second half as her 25-yard shot was on-target, clearing the head of Pine Manor goalkeeper Maria Vaughan (Okinawa, Japan).

Freshman Emily Liakos (Arlington, Mass.), freshman Emily Gorrivan (Windham, Maine), and senior Arianna Masley (Oxford, Mass.) also recorded second-half goals for Anna Maria.

Vaughan had an impressive day in net for Pine Manor, as she totaled 14 saves. The AMCATS outshot the Gators 44-4 on the afternoon.

Anna Maria goaltender Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine) totaled two saves.

The AMCATS return to action on Thursday, Sept. 11th when they travel to Mass. Maritime for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game.
