Gorrivan Scores Twice to Lift Women's Soccer to 2-1 2OT Win against Newbury

PAXTON, Mass. – Freshman Emily Gorrivan (Windham, Maine) collected her second goal of the game three minutes into double overtime to lift the  Anna Maria College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over the Nighthawks of Newbury College in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at AMCAT Field.

The AMCATS record moves to 4-3 while the Nighthawks remain winless at 0-4.

Gorrivan picked up a free ball at from 15-yards out and delivered the game winner past Newbury's netminder and inside the right post for the AMCATS fourth win of the season.

The two teams battled to a scoreless first half. AMCAT netminder Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine), the reigning GNAC Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week, posted three saves in the scoreless half. Kneeland's Newbury counterpart, Elizabeth Fox, also made three saves in 45 minutes of action.

The AMCATS broke the deadlock with just over twenty minutes remaining in the game. Sophomore Julianna Ceccarini (Westfield, Mass.) threaded a beautiful pass down the right wing to a streaking Gorrivan who netted her second of the year inside the left post.

The Nighthawks responded with continued pressure on the AMCAT defense and notched the game at 1-1 just eight minutes later. Sophomore Bridget O'Brien would tip the twine converting a loose rebound in front of the net past Kneeland in the 77th minute.
