Becker Bests Women's Soccer, 2-1

LEICESTER, Mass.- Becker College defeated Anna Maria College 2-1 in non-conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win evens the Hawks record to 2-2, while the AMCATS fall to 1-2.

The Hawks got on the board in the 17th minute when freshman Stephanie Burnell (Mendon, Mass.) headed a corner kick from Alyssa Bond (Thompson, Conn.) into the back of the AMCATS net for her first collegiate goal.

The score remained the same until the 58th minute when freshman Alison Mosdale (Marlborough, Conn.) ripped a penalty kick into the bottom left corner of the net, putting Becker College in front 2-0.

The AMCATS pulled within a goal with 3:38 remaining in regulation when Arianna Masley (Oxford, Mass.) broken free between two Hawk defenders for her first goal of the season.  With 1:11 remaining in the game, Savanah Catucci (Mahopac, N.Y.) had an opportunity to tie the game when Becker goalie Kaitlyn Rose (North Attleboro, Mass.) get stranded too far out of the net, but Tatum Fahs (Foster, R.I.) made a tremendous defensive save to preserve the 2-1 victory.

Becker goalkeepers Kaitlyn Rose and Katherine Cormier (San Diego, Calif) combined to make five saves. Anna Maria goalie Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine) made eight stops.

Anna Maria returns to the pitch on Monday, September 8 when they host Pine Manor at 4:00 p.m. Becker will host Fitchburg State on Tuesday, September 9 at 4:00 p.m.
