Men’s Hoops Honors Seniors, Drops Blazers

Paxton, MA: The Anna Maria men's basketball team won 86-70 win over visiting Elms College on Saturday at the Fuller Center to close out the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season.

THE BASICS:

SENIOR DAY:

• Prior to the game, the AMCATS recognized their graduating senior class as part of senior day. Ralph Grasso, Jr. (Marlborough, MA), Hayden Braga (Foster, RI) and Javon Smith (Bowie, MD) were honored by coaches, teammates, family members and fans for their time with the men's basketball program. Although their time with the program may be ending they will forever be a part of the AMCAT family.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• A dominating second half powered the AMCATS to victory. Leading by three at the half, the hosts outscored their opponent 46-32 in the final frame. A balanced scoresheet was the key for the AMCATS to build and then maintain the lead. Kennedy Minix-Rogers (Smyrna, GA) and Gabe Armstead (Dallas ,GA) both scored 10 points in the second half, while nine AMCATS recorded at least three points.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Armstead lead all scorers with 24 points on 10-19 shooting.
• AMCAT seniors Ralph Grasso, Jr. (Marlborough, MA) and Minix-Rogers joined Armstead with double digit points, scoring 16 and 14 respectively.
• The AMCATS minimized the damage winning the turnover battle 23-15 while winning the points off turnovers by the same score of 23-15.
• The Blazers' Tahquell Cadle (Bridgport,CT) lead all players with 10 rebounds.

UP NEXT:

With the win, the AMCATS secure a bye in the first round of the GNAC Tournament. They will host a quarterfinals game on Wednesday, February 23rd, at 7pm, opponent to be announced.
