Men’s Hoops Falters At Blue Jays

WEST HARTFORD, CT: The Anna Maria College men's basketball team lost 91-68 at the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the O'Connell Center in West Hartford, Connecticut.

THE BASICS:

  • Records: Blue Jays of USJ 8-0, 3-0 GNAC | AMCATS of Anna Maria 4-5, 1-2 GNAC

TURNING POINT:

  • Tied 14-14 early on, the Blue Jays slowly built up a lead, going into halftime with a 48-36 advantage. The AMCATS would get no closer after the break.

 

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Anna Maria senior guard Ralph Grasso, Jr. (Marlborough, MA) led the AMCATS with ten points, six rebounds and two steals.
  • Anna Maria senior guard Kennedy Minix-Rogers (Smyrna, GA) filled the stat-line with eight points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block.
  • Anna Maria sophomore forward Gabe Armstead (Dallas, GA), last week's GNAC Rookie of the Week, finished with eight points, six rebounds, four steals and three blocks.  
  • USJ senior forward Jordan Powell (Middletown, CT) was a dominant presence in the paint, scoring 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting and pulling down 11 rebounds for a double-double to lead the Blue Jays.
  • USJ senior guard Jaecee Martin (Hartford, CT) finished with 16 points and seven boards.

Anna Maria now heads into their break. They will be back on the court on Thursday, December 30th when they head the Eastern Connecticut State University Tournament for a 3:00 p.m. game against the host Warriors.
