Volleyball Falls to Gulls in ECAC Semifinal Contest

North Adams, Mass-- The top seeded Endicott Gulls breezed past the fourth seeded Anna Maria AMCATS 3-0 in the semifinal round of the ECAC New England Division III Volleyball championships.  With the win, the Gulls advanced to the championship round against the winner of MCLA/Lesley.  The AMCATS finish their season at 17-16.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gulls (23-10) wasted little time as they burst out in the opening set taking it 25-11.  They would win the second 25-18 before closing out the match with a 25-18 third set victory. Endicott took advantage of 24 errors by the Amcats and hit a respectable .178 for the match.

AMCAT LEADERS

Anna Maria was paced by senior, Jessica Goulet's (Lawrence, Mass.) team high 7 kills.  Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) ended with 15 assists for the AMCATS and added 17 digs.  Carolina Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) finished with 12 digs for the AMCATS.

ENDICOTT LEADERS

Endicott was led by Lexi Watts' (Rancho Bernardo, Calif.) match best 11 kills on 27 attacks.  Alleigh VanderMerkt (Riverside, Ill.) collected 21 assists in the victory, while Tori McIntyre (San Diego, Calif.) paced the team with 18 digs. Cydney Pierce (Carpinteria, Calif.) added 15 digs, while VanderMerkt finished off the double double with 10 digs of her own.

TOURNAMENT OUTCOME

As the AMCAT volleyball season came to a close, Endicott advanced to the Championship match at 3:00 p.m. where they swept the Massachusett's College of Liberal Arts in a 3-0 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship victory.
