Volleyball Takes Down Eastern Nazarene, 3-0

PAXTON, Mass.—The Anna Maria College volleyball team downed the Lions of Eastern Nazarene College 3-0 on Thursday evening in non-conference action at the Fuller Center.

With the win, Anna Maria evens their record at 2-2, while the loss drops Eastern Nazarene to 3-14.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The AMCATS held the Lions to just 16 kills on the day while tallying 38 of their own en route to the win. Eastern Nazarene managed a .011 hitting percentage and totaled 10 service aces alongside three blocks to keep the scores close, as Anna Maria won by scores of 25-20, 26-24, and 25-21.

The opening set started with Eastern Nazarene rattling off the first six-straight points, but the AMCATS rallied in the middle of the set to take the win.

Anna Maria trailed for most of the second set and the Lions were one point away from the win at 24-21, but Anna Maria took advantage of three-straight errors by the Lions in order to tie the score at 24-24. A kill by Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.) put the AMCATS up by a point, and the team won on an attack error by Eastern Nazarene.

The third set saw seven tied scores and four lead changes, but Anna Maria took control at 17-16 and didn't look back, holding at least a three-point edge for the remainder of the rotations.

AMCAT ATTACKS

Anna Maria was paced on offense by freshman Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) with 13 kills. Foti added eight kills and aided the defense with 10 digs. Senior setter Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) controlled the offense and dished out 30 assists.

AMCAT DEFENSE

Defensively, the team was paced by Parker's 15 digs. Senior libero Brittany Jackson (Larchmont, N.Y.) added 14 digs, followed by Foti with 10. Senior Jessica Goulet (Lawrence, Mass.) totaled two solo blocks at the net.

LION NUMBERS

Eastern Nazarene saw six kills from senior Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) and five from junior Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) Setter Kayla Dean (Landsdale, Pa.) dished out seven assists and posted three service aces. Welse, Madisen Robinson (West Grove, Pa.) and Oksana DiCamillo (Eighty-four, Pa.) all finished with 13 digs apiece.

WHAT'S NEXT

The AMCATS travel to Albertus Magnus on Saturday for a tri-match. The team faces St. Joseph's College of Maine before taking on the hosts in the nightcap.
