Volleyball Drops 3-2 Heartbreaker at JWU

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—The Anna Maria College volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

With the loss, the AMCATS fall to 12-11 overall and 3-3 in GNAC play, while the win boosts JWU to 14-5 overall and 5-0 in league action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In a game where three out of five sets were won by a two-point margin, the AMCATS pulled out a 25-23 win in set one and a 26-24 win in the second set. The Wildcats responded with a 30-28 win in set three, followed by a 25-17 win in the fourth to force a decisive fifth set.

The Wildcats held the AMCATS to just two kills in the finale and totaled nine on their own offensive end to take a 15-10 win to seal the 3-2 victory.

AMCAT LEADERS

The AMCATS were led by sophomore Rebecca Foti (Bedford, N.H.) with 14 kills. Senior Jessica Goulet (Lawrence, Mass.) and freshman Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) both finished with 11 kills each. Senior setter Samantha Parker (Athol, Mass.) dished out 35 assists.

The Anna Maria defense was paced by freshman Carolina Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) with 18 digs. Demi Carrero (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and Parker both added 13 digs, while King finished with 10.

JOHNSON & WALES NUMBERS

The Wildcats were led by Nastasia Kapustin with 15 kills and 12 dogs. Emily Kalmink added 14 kills, while Marissa Bunnewith finished with nine kills. Kellen Tensen dished out 43 assists.

Julianna Zaharias totaled 22 digs for Johnson & Wales.

The AMCATS host St. Joseph (Conn.) and UMass Dartmouth on Saturday. The AMCATS play at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
